Prince George And Prince Louis Will Have To Wait A Very Long Time Until They’re Bestowed Their Fancy Duke Titles

Remember when Prince William earned the title the Duke of Cambridge? And then a few years later his brother, Prince Harry, became the Duke of Sussex? Well, one day William’s sons, Prince George and Prince Louis, will get fancy Duke titles too but they’ll have to wait a looong time until they get the special royal monikers.

According to Cosmopolitan magazine, George, 5, and baby Louis, 7 months, will likely have to wait until they get married to be given their Dukedoms. Bummer, right? But it actually makes a lot of sense considering William and Harry had to wait until they wed Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, respectively, until they became Dukes. So sorry George and Louis, but rules are rules!

So when they do get to be Dukes, which titles are the Cambridge tots likely to receive from senior members of the royal family? “Clarence” is apparently available but the Duke of Clarence title “hasn’t been used for a long time and it’s been sort of tainted by bad luck,” Charles Kidd, the editor of Debrett’s Peerage & Baronetage, said in a statement that The Telegraph once cited. “Connaught,” “Cumberland,” “Teviotdale,” and “Albany” are also reportedly up for grabs.

But what about George and Louis’ sister, Princess Charlotte — what title does she get in the future? Charlotte, 3, will likely one day get Princess Anne’s coveted Princess Royal title but she too will have to wait until her dad, William, becomes King and probably until she gets married to earn the title.

And don’t worry, George, Charlotte, and Louis aren’t the only royal family members who will get new titles in the years to come. When Queen Elizabeth either passes away or abdicates the throne, Prince Charles could become King Charles III (or choose from lots of other names), Prince William will get his father’s Prince of Wales title, and Kate will take over the late Princess Diana‘s Princess of Wales title. So interesting, right?!
