One of Victoria Beckham’s T-Shirt Slogans Is Being Slammed for Making Light of Mental Health Issues
This isn’t good. Victoria Beckham‘s eponymous fashion brand is being slammed by fans this week for promoting a new T-shirt slogan that many people think makes light of mental health issues.
According to the Daily Mail, sponsored Facebook posts promoting Victoria’s “It’s A Dark But Happy Place” T-shirts have garnered lots of negative feedback. “Please tell me I’m not the only one who thinks this slogan is a bad one!” one person wrote on social media with another similarly adding, “Depression is dark but not a happy place!”
Victoria, 44, has also personally promoted T-shirts and sweatshirts with the slogan printed on the front in various pics of herself wearing the clothing on Instagram. In February — when the saying was first unveiled — the mom-of-four explained the slogan by writing, “You could say I’m slightly obsessed with sunglasses?! Wearing glasses all the time, I like to say I’m in a dark but happy place. My exclusive new VVB tee available at my website and 36 Dover St, London x VB.”
Then, in May, Victoria seemingly responded to criticism that she never smiles by captioning a pic of herself wearing her favorite saying, “When you’re smiling on the inside… As the sweatshirt says!!”
This isn’t the first time that Victoria has been slammed by her fans. Last October, the star made headlines for seemingly allowing her then 12-year-old son Cruz to drink alcohol in an Instagram photo of the preteen and his friend sitting by the family’s pool. “Children and alcohol, very nice… Is your boy not a little bit too young?” one person commented on Victoria’s pic. The fashion designer later clarified that the boys were actually enjoying “fizzy apple juice.”
