Maya Hawke Gets Real on ‘Rigorous’ Dad Ethan Hawke and Mom Uma Thurman: ‘My Parents Don’t B.S. Me’

Before actress Maya Hawke was even cast as Robin on Netflix’s Stranger Things, parents Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman were already big fans of the show and even bigger supporters of her acting career. When the 21-year-old starlet recently stopped by Jenny McCarthy‘s radio show, she explained how they never hold back when talking about her performances.

“I know my parents don’t B.S. me,” she said. “They’re pretty rigorous in terms of their commentary when they like something or don’t.”

Maya first appeared in Stranger Things season 3 and so far Ethan, 48, and Uma, 49, have enjoyed watching her on the action-packed show. However, whenever they tell Maya that she’s been doing a great job on the show, their daughter tends to not believe them. “They have said it to me [and] I’m like: ‘No, you’re just saying that because you’re my mom and dad. You hated it!'” Maya joked. “And they’re like ‘No, we did! We liked it!”‘

Ethan and Uma aren’t the only ones who love Maya’s acting on Stranger Things. Her social media followers think she’s been doing an amazing job too! “Maya Hawke is the ABSOLUTE PERFECT combination of Uma and Ethan, and I’m obsessed,” a Stranger Things fan wrote via Twitter. Another said the young actress “looks like a perfect amalgamation of her parents [and that’s] downright spooky.” What do you think?

For Maya, she just enjoys going to work every day and playing a character that she absolutely loves. Thanks to Uma and Ethan, Maya’s learned how to be a down-to-earth person who doesn’t take anything for granted.

“If you’re lucky it’s like you don’t have parents who are celebrities,” she said. “I was never aware of my parents being anything other than my parents.”
