Hoda Kotb Reveals the 1 Thing She ‘Will Not Miss’ About Working on ‘Today’ After Her Exit

Hoda Kotb may love her job on the Today Show, though she revealed that there’s one thing about the gig that she won’t miss.

While appearing on the Wednesday, December 18, episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Hoda, 60, was asked if she would miss waking up at 3:00 a.m. each morning to get to work. “No, I will not miss that,” she said. “Sometimes I push it to 3:15 but it usually goes off at 3:00.”

Hoda made it clear she’s looking forward to sleeping later, though one thing she will miss about the job is the NBC Commissary.

“I’ll tell you something about the NBC Commissary, I love the NBC Commissary,” she told host Seth Meyers. “In fact, my kids come to hang out or see me at work, the only thing they ask for is to go up to the ninth floor of the Commissary because it’s got a good spread.”

Seth, 50, then jokingly asked Hoda if she “would have missed the Commissary 15 years ago,” and she admitted, “No, I would not.”

After noting that she’ll miss many of the Commissary staff members and going to the NBC gym, Hoda reflected on if she’ll miss being on the air.

“I think so many of those things are beautiful but the last tree lighting that we just had that one sort of weirdly hit me,” she said, reflecting on the holiday coverage she’s done throughout the years. “It was like once we did the three, two, one and the tree lit up, I was thinking to myself, I looked around for a second.”

While she said that moments often “pass and you’re not in them,” Hoda said she “was totally in it” during her final Rockefeller tree lighting. “I was like, ‘This is it right now,’” she recalled of the televised event, which took place on December 4.

Despite no longer appearing on NBC’s broadcasts, Hoda insisted that she still plans on watching The Today Show and all of the programs she has been part of.

Hoda announced her decision to leave the Today Show after more than a decade in September.

“As I write this, my heart is all over the map,” she wrote in a letter to her NBC coworkers, which was also shared with viewers. “I know I’m making the right decision, but it’s a painful one. And you all are the reason why. They say two things can be right at the same time, and I’m feeling that so deeply right now. I love you and it’s time for me to leave the show.”

After admitting she had been considering leaving the show for quite some time, Hoda said she felt a “shift” while celebrating her 60th birthday. “I saw it all so clearly: my broadcast career has been beyond meaningful, a new decade of my life lies ahead, and now my daughters and my mom need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie. I will miss you all desperately, but I’m ready and excited,” she explained.
